Comments Easy run after taking a month off after running only part of the Boston Marathon. I'm finished with my first semester of grad school now, so hopefully I'll have more time to run. I didn't realize how much time it was going to take to work full time on top of grad school. Right now I have no races on the schedule until Boston next year, so I'm just going to have fun and slowly get back into a routine. Hopefully this time I can actually plan out a smart training plan for Boston and stick to it, although I don't need to think about that for a few more months.

Comments Decided to defer my race entry to next year. Race day temps got up into the high 80s (the forecast was 89, but I don't know if it got up quite that high or not). Instead of racing, which would have been a bad idea under ideal conditions considering my lack of training, I ran with Jarrin from mile 8 through mile 24. The heat was taking its toll on everyone in the race, and Jarrin was one of 3 GRCers to finish the entire race (Jarrin, Bain, and Lavar). Everyone else decided to either defer or cut the race short and focus on other spring races. I'm glad I hopped in to preview the course, and I'm especially glad I was there to be able to help out Jarrin by grabbing him ice, gatorade, etc.
Next year... third time's the charm.

Comments Great run with Towpath after work. We met at 17th and M and ran up into Rock Creek Park past the Capitol Ruins, then I ran back to the office to add on a little bit, then home. Good pace, no IT band issues during the run, although it tightened up a lot while I was trying to go to bed. Ice and foam roller.

Comments marathon pace hill workout. ran up, down, then back up massachusetts ave hill, then down the other side, up to AU, then down into Georgetown. the marathon pace portion was about 8 miles, and the rest was relatively easy. The elevation gain was roughly 360 feet up and down on mass ave - roughly 820 feet total uphill and about the same downhill.

Comments Despite my knee pain I jumped in this 10k - two loops up a mountain and back down it. I did one loop, but I could feel my knee tightening up around the 1 mile mark, so I dropped out of the race halfway through. I was in about 30th place or so at that point - the race had some incredibly fast people in it. The winner was in the 28:30 range, despite the huge mountain we were running up. That's easily worth mid-27s on a track, probably faster.
It was fun to run a race in another country. Apparently most of the races in Chile are free - the races are paid for by the government as a public health initiative and a sponsorship from a pension fund (Caja 18).
